Another fantastic weekend ride

Right off the bat – my hats off to the SDNCC(San Diego North County Cruisers) organizers Terry and Andrew for putting together yet another amazing ride on this Father’s day weekend.  As always a dozen of us or so took off from the meetup location off Highway 395.  Destination Oak Glen on a expert level run starting through the Temecula wine country back roads to Idyllwild; then out to the mountain regions of Cherry Valley and up into the San Bernadino Mountains to Oak Glen.

First gas and coffee stop was scenic Idyllwild nestled in the San Jacinto mountains among tall pines and sweet smelling cedars.

The Higher Grounds coffee house provided a quick caffeine boost (a good one too I might add – their brew is quality).

Nice smelling boots right outside Higher Grounds.

Baldwin, Ginger and Richard marching towards a photo op under the Idyllwild sign above.

After coffee, we were off twisting and turning our way towards Oak Glen located 15 miles east of San Bernardino at an elevation of 4,734 feet.  Lunch stop was at Law’s Oak Glen – a classic diner style eatery serving breakfast fare, sandwiches and pies.

Terry, Jose, Andrew, Lori and Sabine wait for their grub to arrive …

After lunch we strolled towards the little Glen Oak shops that cater to the tourists for a little look through.

Some motorcycle related gear was visible from tees to leathers like this hog design.

And who doesn’t like yard signs with their favorite sports team?

Out of Oak Glen we darted like bats out of hell to Anza and through to our final stop for coffee in Temecula before taking Highway 15 back to home.  What a great day of riding – 260 plus miles with great people.

A wine worthy of Father’s day dinner

Earth and fruit perfection in this 1997 Fontodi Chianti Classico I chose today to accompany our pasta dinner (basil and avocado based sauce with grilled balsamic chicken).  Amazing ruby red color, earthy nose, berry flavors mixed with leather tones and soft tannins.  The finish was long … this is one fine Chianti worth seeking out.
