Day 2 and beyond in Milwaukee (for my summer break) continued to be an eat and drink fest as it should be as one travels through the Midwest. First up for lunch on Day 2 was the Comet Cafe on Milwaukee’s East Side. Comet specializes in made from scratch comfort food and craft beers using fresh, seasonal ingredients that are characteristic of the Midwest and purchased from as many local businesses and purveyors as possible.
Here’s what I had …
A simple grilled chicken salad with organic greens with a peanut based dressing that is outta this world. You just have to try it!
Washed down with local Pull Chain Pail Ale!
These Brussel Sprouts were braised in delicious 3 Floyd’s beers … yes beer is ubiquitous in Milwaukee!
Comet has many amazing craft beers. The bar below is old school, inviting and lends well to downing a few pints.
And yes, Guy Fiere of Food Network fame was here and featured Comet on his show Diners, Drive In’s and Dives.
Comet Cafe serves great slow, comfort food. Here are a few more shots …
Happy hour with my buddy Chetan took us to Cafe Benelux …
Where Hoegaarden and Kronenbourgs went down nice and easy!
For dinner that night, we headed to the Third Ward to try Ryan Braun’s Graffito. A scratch Italian cooking restaurant, it did not disappoint.
The dinner started with deconstructed bruschetta with tomato Jam, oven roasted tomatoes, ricotta, basil, chives, and ciabatta crostini.
Next up was mushroom pizza with cremini and oyster mushrooms, goat cheese, fontina.
Dinner salad was roasted beets, watermelon, tarragon, baby mache lettuce, goat cheese, marcona.
For the main course, I chose the perfectly cooked pan seared diver scallops, lobster, prosciutto, white truffle risotto, tomato jam, and basil oil.
And pan seared scottish salmon, lentils with pancetta, veal red wine reduction and lemon.
The dinner ended with what else … Gelato and sorbet. A perfect finish to a tasty meal.
After stuffing my face all day, I didn’t think I’d be able to get through this door!
