Pietra Santa 2009 Pinot Noir (Cienega Valley) for 15 bucks = good buy! I mean it. On my palette, this juice produced a taste of bright berry flavors cherries and raspberries. The finish has undertones of vanilla, cedar and earth. It is not bombastic and fruit forward but more like a laid back burgundy. For me, it was a perfect partner for dinner tonight – cod and brown rice + some left over Jambalaya. If you live in the San Diego area pick some up at The Wine Loft in Carlsbad.
A little note on the winery … located 25 miles east of Monterey Bay, Pietra Santa has rock and limestone soils that keep yields low creating expressive and flavorful wines, The winery is named Pietra Santa or “Sacred Stone” in honor of these unique soils.
